Spread The Net
Throughout Africa, the threat of malaria is ever-present. It kills 3000 African children each day. That’s one child every 30 seconds. However, there is hope and a growing global movement to fight this disease. Founded in November 2006 by Belinda and Rick Mercer, The Spread the Net campaign powered in partnership with UNICEF Canada has had much success! The Spread the Net campaign is designed to motivate, educate and inspire Canadians to raise awareness and funds for the purchase and distribution of long-lasting, insecticide-treated bed nets for recipients in Liberia and Rwanda. To-date, $4.25 million or enough to deliver 425,000 nets has been raised thanks to the generosity of Canadians coast-to-coast and to the support of our Ambassadors, a group of well-known Canadians who have all joined in the fight against malaria. Students and youth have played a particularly important role in the campaign and have, in just two short school years, via the Spread the Net Student Challenge, raised over $650,000 or enough for 65,000 nets. Great progress has been made but more is needed to achieve the founding goal of 500,000 nets, and you can help!
Malaria No More Canada
Malaria No More Canada is part of a global network of Malaria No More affiliates working together to put an end to the suffering and death caused by malaria. A non-profit, non-governmental organization, Malaria No More Canada is working with the government, corporations and the Canadian public to ensure that the goal of eradicating malaria is met.
Faiths Act Fellowship
Malaria is an issue that people can come together to solve across faith lines and national divides. TBSF in partnership with The Tony Blair Faith Foundation through the Faiths Act Fellowship programme, is engaging eight Canadian youth as ambassadors of inter-religious cooperation who are working together with fellows from the United States and the United Kingdom and within their faith communities to combat malaria.
